| Handmade Log Cabin Quilt-Blue and Yellow Fabrics(25-203) | ||||||||||
This Log Cabin Quilted Crib or Wall Quilt with the soft blue and yellow fabrics is a perfect quilt to use as a baby quilt, as a wall hanging draped over the back of a couch or rocker, or placed in a decorative basket for a splash of color in any room. This handmade quilt is one of the most popular quilts that our customers buy as a baby gift for the "special someone" in their lives. Since this quilt is machine pieced and finished with hand guided machine quilting, it is sturdy enough to hold up to years of snuggles and cuddles, and washings (see our Quilt Care page). Our grandchildren each received one of these when they were born and now, 13 years later, they are still using them when they watch TV! The Log Cabin is always a favorite traditional pattern. The design is almost "ancient", appearing in early Greek and Roman floor tile patterns. It has appeared in early English quilts as well. American quilt makers popularized the log cabin pattern when the fabric selections were minimal and very expensive. Due to this shortage, the innovative early American quilters constructed the pattern in pieces out of leftover fabric that was used in their clothing. This made all of their quilts have a "scrappy" look. The "log cabin" name was probably attached to the pattern because assembly of the blocks resembled the process of building a real log cabin. There are many layouts of the Log Cabin quilt. This blue and yellow quilt is in the "Barn Raising" layout, symbolizing the method of construction of the log cabins and barns. The center square is a shade of red, representative of the fire in the hearth of the cabin. Because of the random use of a variety of blue and yellow fabrics, the finished quilt will vary from the quilt that is pictured, but the overall look will be the same. Each "log" is 1" wide, each block is 9" square. Backing: Blue print fabric Dimensions:
